The Schoeps MK 4V is a small diaphragm condenser microphone capsule with a cardioid polar pattern, designed with the axis oriented sideways. This configuration is particularly useful in concert halls and speech recordings, as the mild emphasis around 10 kHz improves intelligibility. Additionally, the high-frequency emphasis of sounds from the sides is less pronounced compared to most small, axially oriented cardioids.
