Schoeps MK 2 XS (vh MK3)
Schoeps MK 2 XS
The Schoeps MK 2 XS is a small diaphragm condenser microphone capsule with a true pressure-sensitive (omnidirectional) polar pattern. This capsule is designed for use in a diffuse sound field, meaning at distances in reverberant environments where most of the incoming sound has already been reflected from different surfaces. In such setups, the integrated frequency range of this capsule is virtually flat; the high-frequency elevation measured on-axis is not heard as such in practice.
Key Features
- True Pressure-Sensitive Polar Pattern: The MK 2 XS is a true pressure receiver, meaning it captures sound evenly from all directions.
- High-Frequency Loss Compensation: The capsule compensates for high-frequency losses, ensuring a flat frequency range in the diffuse sound field.
- Ideal for Room Microphone Setups: The MK 2 XS is often used as a room microphone placed outside of the direct sound field in reverberant environments.

Applications
The MK 2 XS capsule is ideal for true-to-life sound recordings in reverberant environments, especially for room microphone setups outside the direct sound field. It is often used in conjunction with the KA 40 spherical accessory to create a classic Decca Tree microphone setup.
